Two Sunday’s ago, I was given the opportunity to shoot with local jewelry brand Elsie Grey for their new spring collection while photographer Dhakshayini Boopalan captured the magic behind the lens. Elsie Grey launched in the heart of Edmonton and is owned by Michelle Choy who’s pieces can be found at local brick and mortar store, PARKSHOP. Each jewelry piece is handmade, lead free and is guaranteed to keep your neck and wrists shinin like that Beyonce chorus.
Upon looking at the array of bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and chokers, I was taken back by the uniqueness and Choy’s attention to detail. I was under the impression that you had to be a minimalist to rock Elsie Grey’s pieces but after chatting with Michelle, she let it be known that anyone can wear her pieces, regardless of their taste when it comes to personal style. With my style being so urban, the gold pieces definitely serve as a staple piece and have that Sade vibe that I’ve been tryna go for lately. Among my favourites were a pair of statement hoops and a variety of gold chokers. The gold hoops you see in the photos above have been my go to for the past two weeks for they are light and can be tucked behind your earlobe which is what makes them so unique.
The best part about shooting these pieces (aside from playing dress up on set) was the fact we were all women of color who came together to create magic. With all of us each having creative platforms, this collaboration allowed us push each of our brands forward. Michelle being a designer, Dhakshayini being a photographer and me being a blogger. I will end this post by saying to please continue to support and collaborate with local brands and businesses. It’s where innovation begins and you’d be very surprised in terms of how far it can take you. Thank you so much Dhakshayini and Michelle for the collaboration and be sure to check out Elsie Grey online or at PARKSHOP located in West Edmonton Mall.
