The Sunday before last marked the first ever YEGshow at Latitude 53 hosted by Jim Duggin and Patricc Cees of Cannibal Kings. If you can recall, these two lads brought sole to the city with the Sole Good Sneaker Convention this past summer (click here for a reminder). The purpose of this event was to bring local fashion/street wear brands together under one roof to help showcase their creations and art pieces. Among the clothing brands were Golde Clothing, Bomb ClothingCruz ClothingEve & Enoch, 6strts, Legal Hustle Clothing5ive7evensClo’s Customs, Cavells Designs, Pyramid Scheme, Apollo OriginalsHALFWITS and Sink or Swim Brand. But the focus wasn’t just on clothing! YEGshow managed to cater to a magnitude of fashion categories such as jewelry, accessories, graphic design, leathered goods, sneaker customization, and gold teeth all under one venue. I had the pleasure to listen to a few stories about how each vendor got their start and also how they came up with their brand name. For example, Jared from Practice Apparel told me that his daughter inspired the name of his brand and she even drew the logo that you will find sewn on the inner collar of each tee shirt. What really captivated me was the beautiful bohemian style setup for Of Mountains & Mangoes by the lovely Shweta Hanneman. The walls consisted of handmade items that have been supplied from around the world including leather jackets, jewelry, dreamcatchers, and Turkish kilims handcrafted by nomadic tribeswomen. Jim and I chatted briefly throughout the event and he mentioned to me that the purpose of YEGshow is feature local talent and provide as much variety as possible. He hopes to bring even more local talent to next year’s YEGshow and helping them showcase their creativity on a larger scale with hopes of attracting more local buyers. Big ups to Jim, Patricc, the vendors and volunteers for creating an environment for locals to showcase their creative talent in areas of fashion and art and for also letting attendees show off their own personal style. I don’t think I’ll get over the fact that I saw (and touched) a pair of Yeezy 950 Duckboots in the Chocolate colorway (Bye Felicia aka Ashton). Here’s a quick recap of what wen’t down that day! Edmonton be on the come up, watch out!
